All the news that's "fit" to print...sounds good, but it is not necessarily what you will get in today's world across multi-media platforms when it comes to information on health issues. All too often we are bombarded by a plethora of pseudoscience running amuck in the unregulated fitness industry. As a consumer, you can choose to believe in scientifically proven facts regarding how to achieve optimum health and fitness or you can choose to believe in conjecture, speculation, and even hype. However, if healthy, long lasting results are your goal, then choose to believe in the science behind proper and consistent cardiovascular and anaerobic exercise. It is that simple and very straightforward.
Examples of the most ridiculous "lines" fed to the American public targeting females in particular, include, but are not limited to the following: (Keep in mind that the following 3 lines ARE NONSENSE!) 1)"Do not lift anything over 3 pounds, ever, you do not want to look a player in the National Football League..." 2)"For long, lean muscles without the bulk, do the following....." 3)"XYZ former dancer engages in muscle-lengthening exercises..." The list goes on but I do not wish to put anymore of this balderdash in writing since it already has harmed the American public, particularly women, long enough. These huge RED FLAGS clearly demonstrate that the author is not only trying to mislead his or her readers, but also attempting to deceive them. If not, then those who dare spew this nonsense have a gross misunderstanding of how the human body was designed to function or perhaps both misinformation and deception are the goals. First of all, the ONLY WAY for a woman to develop "big, bulky muscles" is to ingest illegal anabolic steroids combined with hours and hours of daily heavy anaerobic exercise while consuming thousands of calories. Women DO NOT have the testosterone required to "bulk up" and any "mass" which accumulates in unwanted areas of the female physique is usually the result of unwanted fat from overeating, consuming too much junk food and not following a healthy food plan. In fact, with clearance from her trusted physician, a woman who engages in a regular, challenging, yet SAFE weight-lifting program using external loads will actually become LEANER as her muscles become stronger since it will be those STRONG, LEAN MUSCLES which help to increase her metabolism in order to burn fat and calories at rest, as well as promote great bone mineral density, improve cognitive function and reduce stress, just to name a few! In addition, it is IMPOSSIBLE to make a muscle permanently longer, period. Your muscles are as long as they will be due to genetic factors. The distance between your shoulder and your elbow for example, is fixed, period. For example, muscles TEMPORARILY get longer for a few moments when you lower your arm and then tighten when you raise your arm. There is no such modality which will lengthen muscles. Muscle-lengthening does not exist! What does exist are FAT-REDUCTION MODALITIES which remove fat surrounding muscles. They are as follows: 1)Cardiovascular exercise from a standing position for all those able to stand, i.e. revolving stair machine, actual stairs, outdoor climbing/hiking on hills and mountains where you are working against gravity to lift your body upward. 2)Anaerobic exercise using external loads with 90% of the exercises performed from a standing position to further engage the entire core musculature. 3)Eat a very healthy, balanced plant-based food plan including lean protein, good carbohydrates and good fats as directed by your trusted physician and/or registered dietitian. This post is based on the results from over a quarter century of evidence-based empirical studies performed by the most prestigious and reputable institutions in the United States and abroad. This post also represents, according to what my New York Metro Area physicians and my current UCSF Medical Center physicians, believe strongly, based on the evidence, saved my own life on Valentine's Day 1996 and continues to enhance the quality of my life now at age 53. Do it for yourself, do it for your family, do it for life... CLIMB, LIFT AND EAT WELL...
