Optimum health and fitness is about "flow," the kind which means enough oxygenated blood and nutrients are getting to your organs, limbs, muscles, bones and of course, your BRAIN. Everything you do in the way of cardiovascular and anaerobic exercise along with healthy eating habits will not only enhance how you look and feel but more importantly, how well your entire body functions including your brain. Your brain is dependent upon oxygen just as the rest of your body. In fact the brain consumes 20% of the body's oxygen supply. Regular cardiovascular exercise increases the levels of oxygen in the blood as well as increasing brain capacity by promoting the growth of new neurons and by strengthening the connections between them. In fact your brain can continue to function and grow as long as you keep challenging it by learning new things such as a new language, etc. Obesity and being overweight have also been linked to diminished brain function as well as Alzheimer's disease so in a very real sense you are losing neurons when you do not maintain a healthy meal plan and exercise regimen. Eating the right heart-healthy foods are also the right brain healthy foods. The brain is also almost 75% water so drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body and brain hydrated. Do limit or eliminate alcohol as well to dramatically improve the quality of your health and to help avoid a myriad of other serious health issues. Since your brain performs many important functions while you sleep as well as during waking hours it is very important to get enough restful sleep and to put away all electronic devices, especially those that are bright, in order to help enable you to do just that. Stay tuned for my take on all the news that's "fit" to print...or is it? Until then,
CLIMB, LIFT AND EAT WELL...
